The break-even price is the maximum you can pay for a raw card and still come out even after grading and selling it. Pay less than that and grading can profit; pay more and you’re underwater before you start.
How it’s calculated
Start with the expected graded value (each grade’s sale price weighted by how likely your card is to hit it). Subtract the grading fee, shipping both ways, and the selling fees. What’s left is the most you can pay for the raw card and still break even.
